“Trust is earned in the smallest of moments. It is earned not through heroic deeds, or even highly visible actions, but through paying attention, listening, and gestures of genuine care and connection.” ~ Brené Brown

“It’s all about who you know” is one of the most over-used and misinformed phrases we spend our whole lives hearing. In our world today, knowing someone simply isn’t enough. Whether in life, love, or business; authentic relationship is often the key to unlock the doors we desire to walk through.

The level at which we serve, empower, connect, and create value for others determines our capacity to establish trust, strengthen influence, and create positive momentum. The ability to leverage these connections can only come via genuine relationship.

Here are 4 keys on how to build Authentic Relationship:

1. Servant-Minded Service

Show me the level of your service and I’ll show you the measure of your favor! When you consistently operate with a service-first mindset, you build authentic trust in the relationship. People began to recognize, appreciate, and ultimately depend on your input and advice. We naturally seek counsel from those we can depend on who we trust have our best interest at heart. Servant-minded service allows you to build up on the strong foundation you have laid.

2. Be Clear With Expectations

Be direct! One of the worst feelings in the world is that of being let down. I would argue that over 90% of the time we experience this feeling it is because of failed expectations. It is key to communicate both open and honestly about the expectations for both parties, whether a business or personal relationship. With clear objectives understood and expectations clear, we can now operate with an advantage to deliver with action instead of failing with intentions.

3. Acknowledgment

To be recognized. That’s really what we all desire isn’t it? To be seen, to be acknowledged, to feel that our needs are important. The ability to make people feel valued is a resource that you can’t put a price on. When we take the time to acknowledge others, we are making substantial deposits into the value of that relationship. Think about how far you are willing to go for the people that make you feel that you’re important to them!

4. Share What You Know

Every chance you get you should be generous with your 3 T’s: Talent, Time, and Treasure! Givers go farther.

How are you using your talents to connect your customers to their vision? Is there a young person, peer, or co-worker who could benefit from your time and mentorship? Do you use any of your treasure to impact others with no expectation of return? Ask yourself those three questions everyday and you will live a life full of contentment and gratitude!
